How does Holistic Health Rebuilding work?

As a Certified Functional Nutrition Diagnostic Practitioner, you can consider me your personal health detective. We will embark on a process together where we dig deep to uncover your unique hidden stressors that are causing dysfunction and dis-ease in your body, or what I like to call metabolic chaos. Metabolic chaos is a non-medical term to describe the cumulative dysfunctions that result from stress and imbalance in the body, and it can manifest as symptoms or diagnoses. The process works as follows:

Comprehensive analysis: Our work together begins with a thorough analysis of your health history, symptoms, and lifestyle assessment. This information is paired with your results of strategically selected functional lab assessments, which will bring insight to the healing opportunities that exist in your body in the areas of your hormones, immune system, digestion, detoxification, nervous system and oxidative stress, or accelerated aging. The magic is in connecting the dots of all these elements together, at the same time, for a greater picture of your personal metabolic chaos.

Personalized healing plan: Once your healing opportunities are uncovered, we will create a personalized plan for you that involves a holistic healing roadmap of diet and lifestyle shifts to rebalance your body and mind. Your tailored recommendations will include nutrition, rest, movement, stress and toxin reduction, and strategic supplementation.

Ongoing support and connection: We will meet regularly through the course of our work together. These sessions will be important for you to help you implement your recommendations, hold you accountable, track your progress, and to pivot and course correct as needed.

Personal empowerment: Through this process, you will connect more deeply with your body and learn to tune into it’s signals. You will become empowered with the tools you’ll learn to help ease your symptoms and restore balance in your body in a way that works for you. You might even create a ripple effect within your community as you share what you’ve learned with those you love!

Holistic Health Rebuilding Process

  • Strategy Session

    Our work together begins with a complementary Strategy Session. This is a free 20-minute call where we discuss your main health complaints, healing goals and commitment level. This is an informal yet intimate conversation that helps to assess if our working together is a good fit.

  • Functional Lab Assessments

    Our work together begins with your completion of the functional lab assessments, and simultaneous deep dive into your health history. While we wait for your lab results to arrive, we’ll begin to work on foundational healing basics like nutrition and lifestyle practice optimizations.

  • Results, Recommendations & Coaching

    You will receive your personalized lab results and healing recommendations - and in this session, you will feel SO validate that it’s not all in your head! Then the work begins with bi-weekly coaching sessions to help you implement the strategies recommended personally for you.

  • Retesting, Alumni program or Graduation

    At the end of your program period, you will have the option of retesting to assess improvements, move into an alumni monthly coaching program or graduate and maintain all your amazing progress on your own.

    • 1 Results & Recommendations session (120 mins) where you will receive your lab results, a written summary and personalized lifestyle and supplement recommendations

    • 1 Protocol Session (60 mins) to review your protocol in detail and ask any questions

    • 7 Bi-weekly (40 mins) Support Sessions to help you implement your healing recommendations, protocol and keep you on track (some will occur before your results are back to get you started on nutrition and lifestyle, and the bulk will occur afterwards)

A healing framework

I use the framework of Connect | Clear | Calm | Nourish with my clients.

  • Our therapeutic partnership will be founded in our ability to connect with one another, and for you to feel seen and heard by me. Additionally, I will be viewing you as one body, with all your bodily systems are interconnected. Your symptoms are all connected, and overlap with multiple body systems. Your functional lab results are going to highlight your healing opportunities across many systems, like your hormone, immune, digestion, detoxification, energy production and nervous system. We won't be playing target practice to address symptoms in one area or body system - rather, we are going to work on connecting the dots in your health, supporting your body foundationally and raising it's capacity to heal and restore function.

  • A key part of reducing the stress load on your body will be clearing, or removing, your hidden stressors and inflammatory triggers. These are individual to the person, and will include exploration around food, lifestyle practices (such as rest and exercise) and your environment (from toxins to mental and emotional stressors). By clearing your unique stressors, you’ll raise your body's resiliency and ability to heal. You'll feel relief from symptoms and gain new awareness around what impacts your body, and how, allowing you to make empowered choices in the future.

  • Depending on your body's unique stress load, there may be a number of inflammatory triggers to remove, like pathogens (bacteria, parasites, etc), toxins, inflammatory foods, and more. When eliminating these stressors from your body, it's possible you will have some periods of time where you feel worse, before you feel better. Therefore a big part of our work together will be to calm inflammation, support your body's ability to detoxify, not over-exerting yourself and help your body increase its capacity to heal. A big part of this healing work is calming your nervous system to quell a chronic stress response. Chronic stress impairs your ability to heal, therefore soothing your body and nervous system, and tuning into yourself, will be a critical part of your process.

  • The process of nourishment will be infused throughout our work together. You will literally work on nourishing your body through anti-inflammatory nutrition. You will also nourish your body through your lifestyle choices of getting restful sleep and exercising in a way that honors what your body needs and can handle. You'll be guided to address any physical stressors or injuries and eliminate toxins in your household or personal care products. You'll also be encouraged to address your mental and emotional stressors, such as placing loving boundaries on others and yourself, practicing breathwork or tapping into other modalities to help you heal. The whole intention of our work together is to help you heal and rebuild your health, holistically.

What is Functional Nutrition?

If you’re new to Functional Nutrition (or Medicine), I like to use the metaphor of a tree to describe how it works. Functional Nutrition looks at your body as a whole, and recognizes that all your body systems are interconnected, much like the branches of a tree are to its roots. Many times, in allopathic (or traditional Western) medicine, doctors will look at symptoms or specialize in one system (a lone branch or section of the tree), without recognizing the impact to the body’s other systems.

In Functional Nutrition, we understand that all symptoms connect back to three key roots: genetics, digestion and inflammation. Without addressing those, it is challenging to find true resolution. Additionally, we believe that stress, especially chronic stress, is the true trigger for dysfunction in these key roots, as well as all the body’s systems. Chronic stress breaks the body down so that it no longer functions as it should, ultimately creating metabolic chaos. Symptoms, such as migraines, imbalanced hormones, skin rashes, digestive distress, or achy joints, are telling us that there are upstream imbalances that need to be addressed.

In Functional Nutrition, we also believe in the following three key ideas:

  • Everything is connected

  • We are all unique

  • All things matter

This means that everything in the body is connected (like a tree), no two people are alike (and therefore cookie-cutter protocols or diets aren’t sufficient), and that everything we do, feel, eat and believe matters. Everyone, especially you, should be viewed as an independent, bio-individual person - and therefore the healing roadmap to your body’s resolution will be unique to you.
